The movie that we have watched has several nominees and best picture.. the title of this movie is "Magnifico".. this movie showed a typical filipino peoples living in a brgy., poverty, carnival, gossip etc.. these are sometimes seen in a brgy. in provinces. The story was nice because the child actor brings it naturally, the story is about a boy that helped a lot of people especially his grandmother that he is helping for its near death. but in the end the boy died and he used the home made coffin that he built, this is a very touching story, because you can't usually see or encounter a child like magnifico, i mean the kid is so perfect that he helped a lot of people in their brgy.. well for me even if the story did not end in a tragedy, i think it will still be a happy ending.
Next is the last story which is entitled "Ampalaya", this story is like a science fiction story. the story focuses on the "Ampalaya" which on the year 2050 it is illegal to plant it because one big company is planting it already. the main character of the story "Juan Dela Cruz", he is planting ampalaya for a living and to survive his family, suddenly a group of people came into his home and arrest him and his family.while in court he is found guilty and gave the punishment of lethal injection and reclusion perpetua or lifetime imprisonment for his family for just planting and eating ampalaya.
I don't get it why would they suffer just for a simple vegetable that it is their own, as discussed in class some said that it is possible to see it in the future that only one holds the bussiness like vegetables, meat etc... but i think it is present now a days, because i think rice and cooking oil only one person holds it and i think he is a senator.
another term has passed and i enjoy blogging and listening to reporters and to my classmate that brings the class lively on a boring time.

novel.. novel.. novel..
Sorry again for this late post of blog, the have finished two novels. “Reconnaissance” by Tara F. Sering and “Smaller and Smaller Circles” by F.H. Batacan.
Ill talk about my reaction on the first novel, now I know why miss pick the guys to report about this novel since Reconnaissance is a chick-lit novel. Well for me it was a bit hard to understand the novel at first, since it is a very short novel I had the chance to read it again. This novel made me realize that it’s not easy for girls or should I say women to move on that easily on a break-up situation, they go to different ways or experimentation just to forget the hurt that they are feeling inside.
Well this story was written by an author who is writing an article on a magazine for women which is the cosmopolitan magazine so its easy to guess that her approach of writing the novel is really for women, and the language that she used and also she used a first person that is like a third person view. Confusing? Well it’s hard to explain on how she write the novel. But the novel was nice even if I’m a guy who read the story, usually guys won’t appreciate chick-lit novels, well it worked for me. If I’m going to rate it, ill give this chick-lit an 8 out of 10.
Let’s go on the second novel which was the longer novel than the first novel that I have read. The “Smaller and Smaller Circles”, this novel was great because where can you read a crime novel that the crime solver was two priest, I admit that when I read the first few part of the novel I got bored with it because if I’m going to see it in a movie it’s all talking and talking and talking. But as the I get closer to the end of the book the scene is getting better specially on the chapter that the two priest are close to see who the criminal is, but as discussed on class the story was like spoon-fed to the reader because of some extra words that the author added to the novel some said that on the middle part of the novel they already know who the killer was, because on the novel there 5 or 7 page that has a quote that is in italic font so the reader will know that he/she is killer and the clue symbols the author used is easy for the reader to find out who the killer was. Well for me it worked again for me the novel was nice.

inosente...
sorry for the late post of this blog, it should have been posted like a month ago. we have finished the story tale of the spinster and peter pan. this story is is just fine, because the main character i the story for me had a boring life. why? because she do her routine everyday, as in everyday not skipping at least one. also in the story the main character got used to the everyday life she does and later on got surprised because the bar she usually go every Thursday got a new arrangement. the main character is a writer in one of the daily news paper or magazine. she also fantasize the male singer on the bar she usually go, but in the end she got disappointed because the guy that she fantasize is far from what she is thinking.
as for the story the main character is like an alien on her own town. because its like everything is new around her. we can relate this to people that is new to a place we filipinos call it "inosente" because if a person is in a place that is new to him or her, he or she doesn't know what to do or how to act unless asking for some help of guide. other is because of the main character's daily routine she is never aware of what is happening new to the surroundings.

fast dating...
our class is now on the contemporary stories, so we have finished "Games" this story is about a girl that keeps on changing voices and names whenever she calls to her boy friend in his office so the guys office mates think that he is a "chickboy" until the girl realizes that what she's doing is wrong.
to answer the blogs question we are ask to compare the canon stories to the contemporary stories, i chose the relationship part. The stories in canon are the old type or style of courting a girl or dating it's so old fashion since the stories were written in the past and also the setting of the stories while here in the contemporary stories the type and style has a bigger gap because the story we read was on a modern setting.
since I'am talking about relationships, on the earlier days of it guys must handle the girl with care. meaning they have to really get the girls trust and especially the family of the girl. in the earlier years guys must work, like chopping woods and getting water from the the "poso" in order for the girl's family to have water during the whole day. another is the guy must only court the girl on their house and holding the hands is a big big deal that time. another is in the much earlier year rich families are used to fixed marriage especially if the parents of the girl has a big amount of money to pay to the boys family. so what they do is in order for them to be paid they let their daughter marry the son of the family that they should return a favor. for me i think it is wrong to have a fixed marriage especially if the girl doesn't have any love for the boy she's going to marry.
let us now go to the modern days of courting and dating. now a days having a gf or bf is not a big deal anymore for some out there it is like a game now their couples and then suddenly they split up and find another fast. now a days courting is never done in the girls home, they often meet up in malls or in some other places. finding a bf or gf is fast now a days especially we the technology. first is the internet, we can find a lot of people in friendster, myspace, zorpia, multiply, etc... after knowing them in the net you can ask for their ym ID after that you just chat for a while and the next step is you get each others cellphone number and then with just a several text you may be dating the one you meet on the internet. it's fast and some call it speed dating.
well for me i still go for the old style. courting the girl at home and chivalry is still present when courting a girl. because for me my respect for a girl is high. and that's all i have to say.

gender...
we have just finished another two stories at class. "Love in the corn husk" and "The corral"
the two authors of the stories are both women, i think they are describing on the women live on the 50's to 70's. just like on the two stories that we have finished last week, patriarchy is seen on the stories that male is more dominant on a family, well the women's status on the 19th century is more different than the women of the 20th century.
women in the 19th century actually don't do that much, example is women should stay at home and take care of the children and should serve her husband after work, while women in the 20th century is stronger, because they already work and takes care of the family at the same time. women now a days is like a super women, because they can multi-task which men don't do it often.
as for the story, for me it has conflicts like regrets, because first is from the "Love from the corn husk" Tinay saw the letter of the man who loved her on their past but she have nothing to do because she already had a husband and had a son and upcoming baby. while the second story which is "The corral" Pilar chooses on to be with although there is a man that love and adore her, but on how she acted she had no choice but to choose Mr. Perfecto, a principal of the school she teaches. it's like she's trap on a circled room that has two door and the first door was already locked because of her attitude and have no choice but to open the last door for her. but the last door is good for her because she has already a stable life if she chooses that door. just like that.

"Like or Love?"
May i ask the reader of this blog, if your a guy how would you court a girl? and for the ladies how would you like to be courted by a guy?
Since our class finished another two shorts story for the third week, so its time to react on the stories. The authors of the two stories is trying to describe on how filipinos do when in a relationship. The first story was "The bread of salt" first of all i would like to say is that's the only time ive known that the english of pandesal is BREAD OF SALT. Anyway let's go on to the story, all of us guys courted a girl right? even once. for the story the boy there had a simple problem. he stepped down easily on his mission because of some scene that he made. i think he only got ashamed of the girl he really like. well maybe he could cover himself on that situation. if that would happen to me, maybe i would tell a joke or something to get away.
Second was 'The Summer Solstice", the author of the story shows that in the setting of the story, men should rule and women should follow the men especially the wives. but in the end of story Don paeng still worships his wife Dona Lupeng.
for me love and courtship now a days is hard to look at, because some of the filipino guys wants a fast and easy courting, not like on the early days courting a girl is very long and difficult because you have to get the girls trust and even the family's trust in you. Chivalry is still present now a days because for a guy like me, i still go for the chivalry method because i think it's effective and it shows how i highly respect a girl. In the early years, you marry because you love each other forever, but now love is just for a short time like, you love her because your still courting but when it comes to marriage the love lessen until the couples separate. only a few now a days are true to their loved ones.

conflicts? problems?....
another week has passed and we have finished another two short stories by Francisco Arcellana. In this two stories we will analyze which is more realistic. Is it "The Mats" or "Divide by two".
For me this two stories is about conflicts. just like "The Mats", for me the conflict in this story is when the father opened up the topic about their dead daughters and suddenly he get's mad after reminding himself and his family about that. Second is "Divide by Two", the conflict in here is the couple here i think has a past to each other.
Well the most realistic in this story is "The Mats", because its just normal for filipino family to remember their dead relatives or member of the family. because some of the filipinos today still do that routin that even if one of their family member is dead they still respect the place or stuffs that he/she left.
While "Divide by Two" is least realistic, because the scene of this story is usually seen in a television novel or drama. because it is such a small problem two get mad about the blocks. well as some of class realize that maybe they just used the blocks in order to open their conflict that has passed a long long time ago. filipino traits?
After reading two short stories in LITFILI, now it's time to go back analyze each stories. this short stories were written by famous authors, while we read the stories we have seen some filipino traits in each of the short stories.
First was "My father goes to court" in this story we have seen a typical filipino trait that whatever problem comes to a filipino, he/she just smile or laugh at their problem, even if the problem is so bad some of us just don't mind it very much. Another thing is some of filipino people have this kind of trait which is called "pilosopo", they sometimes joke on peoples quote or saying, maybe because they don't know it or just pretending that they know it.
Second is "How my brother Leon brought home a wife", in this story i have seen one trait that filipino people is sometimes paranoid, because in this story the father of leon tested her wife maria if she could adapt the environment in the province, because they think manila girls are so vain and not use to the environment of the province, but the father was wrong of his thoughts about the girl.
so now my question is, why some of the filipinos have this negative traits, well some of the traits that was seen on the two short stories is still existing now a days and its getting a lot more. like the time, some of us comes after an hour. example is the agenda is 9am but people will come by 10am, it's always one hour late. another is filipino students like me, even if we have tons of work to do, it's like that we don't worry much about it, we usually like to cram always, and sometimes when cramming that's the time that i could think clearly.
